Benue killing: Adesina speaks on Buhari’s involvement in herdsmen clash with farmers

Femi Adesina, President Muhammadu Buhari’s Senior Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, has clarified his boss involvement in the raging attack of between herdsmen and farmers in Benue State that left over 50 persons dead, saying the killings is not the first one and has nothing to do with the President.
The clarification came as critics alleged that the President was fueling the menace of the herdsmen, who are Fulanis of Buhari’s extraction. The critics added that seeing the President is from the tribe has given the cow rearer stronger audacity to commit greater atrocity.
The critics had further said that President Buhari had done nothing nor address the killings, which the herdsmen had perpetrated in many states leaving scores of their host dead.
In a Facebook video, Adesina defended Buhari that the invasion of herdsmen is purely evil but has no connection with the fact that the President is a Fulani man
Adesina added: “I will like to balance my position with statistics. In 2013 particularly, there were 9 cases of herdsmen invading communities in Benue State and more than 119 people were killed.
“In 2014 there were about 14 of such tragic development with more than 231 people killed. and then there was a change of government in May 2015.
“But between January and May 2015, there were 6 attacks which left about 335 people dead. That was between January and May 2015. The question is do we have Fulani president then?
“This show us that the issue of Fulani herdsmen attacking farmers is purely criminality and it is something the government must deal with. It is the duty of the government to protect the live of the citizenry. It is the responsibility of the government to maintain law and order and that this government is determined to do.
“Therefore, let no one say all these is happening because we have a Fulani president. We have had many Fulani presidents in the past and this issue of herdsmen and local communities being at loggerheads has predated this government but I will just like to appeal to Nigerians that Muhammadu Buhari government is determined to crack this issue and to get to its bottom and it will be get done. Thank you.”
Meanwhile President Buhari had yesterday directed the Inspector General of Police to move his office to Benue to better handle the insecurity in the community. On arrival today Wednesday the IGP Idris Ibrahim began with visitation to traditional rulers.
