Ruben Loftus Cheek made an impressive debut for England against Germany last night, and the stats behind his performance truly back up that impression from the naked eye.
Loftus-Cheek made plenty of impressive bursts with the ball, showing his strength and acceleration that we’ve seen damage teams at all.
But it was his ability passing the ball that really impressed.
The 21 year old made 52 passes, at an astonishing success rate of 96.2% according to Whozscored.
He also made 5 long ball attempts, the second most of any English outfield player, and 4 of them were successful. That impressive ratio was bettered by this 2 from 2 accurate through balls.
That kind of efficient but also threatening use of the ball is exactly what we want to see from Loftus Cheek, and shows that he’s improving as he gains more and more senior starts. This was just his 21st in the mens game, but by the end of the season he should have 40+ and might well be pushing for a World Cup squad place.
